A practical way to choose creators based on audience, local language, content quality and working terms.
Begin creator selection with the customer's problem, not the follower count. Does the brand need a video explaining the product, access to the creator's own audience, or both? The answer determines what evidence to ask candidates for.
Prepare a short brief first
Put the customer, product purpose, where the video will appear, number of versions and deadline on one page. When working in Hindi or other Indian languages, identify the region and language style you want to reach. Using one language does not prove that audiences across the country have the same needs.
Assess every candidate on the same basis
| Question | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Does the audience fit the campaign? | Period and source of recent audience data |
| Can the creator explain the topic? | Relevant videos and a proposed product idea |
| Is the content useful? | Clear audio, framing, captions and storytelling |
| Can you work together? | Availability, revisions, fee and communication |
| Will promotion be transparent? | Advertising disclosure and claim-checking plan |
Ask which period and platform the figures in screenshots come from. Do not ask for passwords or private customer data. Followers or comments do not guarantee purchases.
Run a small test
Give two or three suitable creators the same objective and guardrails, while allowing storytelling freedom. Agree fees, delivery, usage rights and disclosures in writing before starting. After the test, look at on-time delivery, audience questions and available measurements. Do not derive a market-wide success rate from a small sample. ASCI gives brands and creators guidance on clear promotion and avoiding misleading claims.
Make the shortlist useful after the test
Record each candidate's proposed concept, availability, price and evidence in the same simple table. Before comparing results, note whether the creators posted during the same period, used the same offer and linked to the same page. If a product was unavailable or the promotion changed, record that context alongside the outcome. Discuss what each creator learned from audience questions, then choose one specific improvement for the next brief rather than treating a short test as a definitive ranking.
