Define the message, deliverables, revisions, disclosure and organic and paid usage period in a practical UGC brief.
A brand may commission a video for its own account or a paid advertisement. Production, publication on the creator's account and granting brand usage rights are different activities. Clarifying them upfront helps both parties assess time and price.
Start with one task
Fictional example: “A vertical video showing people interested in organising their workspace how to use a desk organiser, step by step.” Provide accurate product details, substantiated features and visual examples, while allowing the creator to propose an approach. Do not request a fabricated experience or an unsupported result.
Practical brief components
- Delivery: number of videos, aspect ratio, approximate duration, language, subtitles, file type and deadline.
- Revisions: rounds, feedback owner, response time and whether a reshoot is extra work.
- Rights: the brand using the content, channels, countries, licence term and organic or paid use.
- Edits and files: cropping, resizing, subtitles and whether raw files are included.
- Third parties: rights for music, images and people on screen, including paid-ad permission.
- Compensation: production, any publication, reuse licence, expenses and payment dates.
For a practical handoff, the brand can send one consolidated set of comments after reviewing the first cut against the approved brief. The creator can identify which requests are corrections and which would require a new shoot. Both parties should then confirm any revised deadline and fee in writing before work continues. This makes the agreed revision process easier to follow and keeps the final delivery predictable.
Make disclosure part of the design
If the content is advertising under the applicable rules, plan a clear Arabic notice in the published asset from the start. The Ministry's guide discusses short content and reposting. Check relevant licensing with the media authority and product-category approvals where needed.
Keep the approved version, rights documentation and evidence for claims. When a licence ends, discuss stopping or extending ads and reposted material. Do not assume sending a product grants unlimited reuse rights.
Must UGC be posted on the creator's account? Not necessarily. The agreement may cover production for brand channels only. Write that down and assess the rules for each use.
