Build a practical measurement plan for influencer campaigns and interpret UTM links, reach, costs and verified conversions accurately.
A campaign may receive many views, but that does not mean the same number of people visited the product page or bought it. A measurement plan defines the question and the evidence needed before the campaign begins.
Choose indicators that match the goal
Separate three questions: how many people did we reach, what did viewers do, and what measurable business outcome occurred? Reach, video views, link clicks and verified orders are distinct events. Do not compare one platform's views with another's reach without checking definitions.
Record each metric's source, reporting period, owner and limitations. Note the date of any screenshot shared by a creator. Returns, cancellations and unpaid orders can affect the sales definition; reconcile net revenue with commercial records.
Build consistent UTM links
Google Analytics explains that campaign parameters can help report traffic by source and campaign. For example:
https://example.com/urun?utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=creator&utm_campaign=kahve_lansman&utm_content=video_a
Source identifies the platform, medium the channel type, campaign the common name and content the variant. Keep a naming dictionary: changes in spelling or case can split reports. Never put names, email addresses or phone numbers in parameters. See Google's current UTM guidance.
Before publication, click the link to check its destination and verify that your analytics setup records the expected events. Separate identifiers for creators or pieces can help comparison; test redirects and campaign rules.
Interpret the calculation carefully
In a fictional example, a campaign with 20,000 TL in total production and distribution costs and 400 measurable visits has a cost of 50 TL per recorded visit. This is not an industry benchmark. Gross sales are not profit. Define attributable revenue and advertising spend for ROAS, and appropriate returns and costs for ROI, before reporting either.
A UTM link does not capture all influence: someone may see a video, search later, use another device or decline measurement consent. Reconcile reports to avoid counting an order twice. If data is absent, say “no verified sales data from this channel” rather than “zero sales.”
Does a UTM prove causation? No. It can help report a visit through a tagged link, but it cannot establish that the content alone caused a sale. Document budgets, periods and other variables in comparative tests.
